Some play

Last night I finally got to see some of New Orleans. We went to the Gumbo Shop and then to a piratey bar that specializes in absinthe. The bartender gave the history of the drink while she made it. She was dressed like a pirate. Or I guess a pirate wench? Not sure.

Reading Memoirs

For some reason I have really been on a memoir-reading kick. Mostly celebrity memoirs. I am not sure how it started, but I am just fascinated with reading them. I especially like to read those about people whom I have followed for years and their books discuss things that happened during that [...]

#65: Attend a Professional Hockey Game

I completed #65 on my 101 in 1001 list last night when I saw the Chicago Blackhawks play the St. Louis Blues in St. Louis. The game was a lot of fun. There was a surprisingly high amount of scoring, so there was lots to cheer for. Unfortunately I am still pretty [...]

Dream a little dream

I have been wearing a mouthguard to prevent me from grinding my teeth while I sleep. When I remember to wear it, I sleep much more soundly and have much more
vivid dreams. My dreams are often very detailed and complex. And long. Here are just short synopses of some recent dreams. [...]

NaBloPoMo Fail

For the first time ever, I have failed at NaBloPoMo. This would have been my fourth year completing it, but I forgot yesterday. I worked a half day and then we drove to Michigan. Then there was a toddler to play with and a dog to meet and family to catch up [...]

Stopping in Style

We like to look online every now and then at souped up Honda Fits and imagine ways we could transform our Jelly Bean (that’s what we call our car).
All we had done so far was get fancy rims and talk about getting a cool paint job (he wants matte black and I want plum). [...]

Observed by the Observer

Fans of Fringe know that Fox has been heavily advertising tonight’s episode that reveals information about The Observer. Yesterday I saw on Twitter that observers were spotted in LA and Atlanta as part of the promotion. I hoped they would come to Chicago.
This morning I saw a tweet that they were indeed in [...]

Too Much for Supernanny

It was not all fun and games when we were waiting in line last weekend to meet Dustin Byfuglien. While most of the people waiting in line were tolerable, there was one couple with two boys (probably seven and nine) who were too much to handle.
I really try not to judge [...]

Joes for Tots

Are you planning on donating to Toys for Tots this holiday season? Do you need a little incentive to get you in the giving mood? How about the chance to win some great toys for yourself in the process?
The second annual Joes for Tots contest is up and running! What started as [...]

Meeting Dustin Byfuglien

E and I went to the Napa Auto Parts store in the neighboring town today to meet Chicago Blackhawks player Dustin Byfuglien. He is my favorite hockey player and when I saw the advertisement for the appearance on the store’s marquee earlier this week I actually gasped. Of course E was driving at [...]
