A second career?

In my ninth grade English class, we were tasked with researching and writing about what career we wanted to have when we grew up. I remember going to the library and looking through some career book and coming upon greeting card writer. So, while most of my classmates wrote about becoming a doctor or a fireman, I wrote about writing greeting cards.

I was reminded of this today when I was in the Hallmark store looking at greeting cards. While I have never really been impressed with cards in the past, I really feel like they are mostly crap these days. If you don’t want a sappy card, with flowing font, talking about how much the person has lit up your life with their beauty and wisdom (which would sound completely phony coming from me) or if you don’t want to insult the recipient by implying she is old or not as cool as you, you are really out of luck.

For that reason, I ended up going with a blank card. I suppose I should just start making my own cards and then the 14 year old version of me can have her dream come true at least in a small way.
